Prison population in Italy H1 2020, by crime type

As of June 2020, 30.5 thousand prisoners were incarcerated for property crime. According to data, property crime was the most common crime charged. Moreover, 23 thousand individuals were convicted of crime against the person, whereas roughly 19 thousand inmates committed drug-related crimes.
As of August 2020, the number of prisoners in Italy was 53.9 thousand. Data related to the age of prisoners show that individuals aged between 50 and 59 years made up the largest group of incarcerated population in Italy.
