Number of H&M stores in Canada by province 2019

As of July 2019, there were 96 H&M stores located across Canada. 43 were located in Canada’s most populous province of Ontario. There were 22 in Quebec and 13 in British Columbia at that time.

H&M origins

The H&M brand is owned by the H&M Group, which owns a number of other clothing brands including Monki, Weekday and ARKET. The company was founded in 1947 with the opening of a women’s clothing store in Sweden. The store was named Hennes, which is Swedish for “Hers”. A second store opened in Stockholm five years later. In 2018, there were over 4,400 H&M stores worldwide, making it the most widespread brand of the H&M Group.

H&M’s performance in Canada

H&M’s revenue in Canada has been steadily climbing in recent years – in 2018, sales reached around 726.6 million Canadian dollars, an increase of over 420 million dollars since 2010. Subsequently, H&M’s share of total apparel sales in Canada also increased to 2.3 in 2018, over 0.5 percent more than in 2014.
