In 2021, 9.2 million foreign fiction books were purchased in Italy, up from eight million in the previous year. Foreign fiction and children's books for kids under the age of five were the bestselling genres in Italy 2020, but the latter was overtaken by comics in 2021, with 11 million copies sold that year.
