In 2018, 36.4 percent of the Academy Award-winning movies in 2018 were directed by people of color. This marks a jump of more than 16 percent from the previous year and is the highest figure yet, and when compared to the 2011 figure in particular shows a remarkable surge in accolades received by ethnic minorities for their film direction.
