As of July 2022, the number of alive divided family members by the Korean War aged between 90 years and older in South Korea amounted to around 13 thousand. The mortality rate among alive family members continues to increase due to the aging of separated families.
The Korean War from 1950 to 1953 divided many families. To date, a total of 21 reunions of separated families have taken place.
