In 2018, TianqiLithium in China acquired Chilean Sociedad Química y Minera de Chile S.A. for 4.07 billion U.S. dollars, the largest cross-border merger and acquisition in Latin America and the Caribbean. That same year, UnitedHealth Group in the U.S. acquired Banmedica S.A. from Chile for more than 3 billion U.S. dollars.
