The statistic presents the returns of the national NCREIF Property Index in the United States from 2014 to 2018, by property type. In 2018, the return rate for office properties was 6.8 percent in the United States.
Commercial real estate refers to buildings such as retail real estate (different types of stores and shopping malls), office buildings or warehouses. The return from investment in such type of real estate can result from capital gain of income from property rental. The NCREIF Property Index reflects the change in prices of commercial real estate for investment purposes in the United States. In the years following the 2008 financial crisis the commercial real estate prices acquired in the private market increased each year.

As such, all properties are held in a fiduciary environment."
