Greater New York was the only metro in the U.S. where the value of retail real estate investment grew year-on-year in 2023. The value of capital allocated to retail real estate in Greater New York was over six billion U.S. dollars, an increase of about one percent from 2022. Atlanta and Chicago also received a substantial amount of investment (approximately two billion U.S. dollars), but that was a decline of about 40 percent year-on-year. The retail sector was one of the asset classes hit worst by the pandemic.
