During 2018, the oil and gas industry was the leading target industry for M&A activity with 768 deals. M&A deals involving banks as the target industry closely followed in 2018 with 762 deals. The value of all M&A transactions that year amounted to almost 3.4 trillion U.S. dollars globally.
