Share of M&A deal value worldwide that were cross-border 1985-2018 This statistic illustrates the share of the total value of merger and acquisition (M&A) deals that were cross-border worldwide from 1985 to 2018. According to data provided by the Institute for Mergers, Acquisitions and Alliances (IMAA) the share of cross-border M&A deals generally increased with some fluctuation during the period observed. In 1985 the share of deal value that were cross-border amounted to 9 percent, by 2018 this had increased to 40 percent. This was the highest share of total M&A value attributed to cross border activity since 2007 when 46 percent of M&A deals value was through M&A.
