Extremadura: colon cancer deaths 2005-2017

This statistic presents the annual number of deaths from malignant colon tumor in Extremadura from 2005 to 2017. In 2017, a total of 350 deaths were recorded due to this type of disease* in that autonomous community. The number of deaths from colon cancer in Spain amounted to over 11 thousand deaths in 2017. This figure has increased considerably over the last years.

* Colon cancer occurs because the mucosa of the colon, contained in an existing benign adenomatous polyp, evolves for different reasons into a malignant tumor. It is the third most common form of cancer and risk factors include age, the existence of polyps, family history of colorectal cancer and inflammatory diseases of the colon, poor diet, a sedentary lifestyle and smoking.
