In 2021, hydropower dominated the electricity generation in Central and South America, accounting for approximately 48 percent of the region's gross output. Meanwhile, nuclear energy accounted for nearly two percent of the electricity generated in the region. That year, Brazil was by far the largest electricity producer in the region.
