Soft drinks were the segment that generated the highest revenue share in the Brazilian non-alcoholic beverages market, almost double the second largest, bottled water. Despite soft drinks making up the lion's share of the market, per capita consumption has decreased in recent years and stabilized at around 60 liters per person. This is also evident in the share of Brazilians consuming soft drinks five or more days a week, which decreased by almost half between 2011 and 2021. This beverage type was more popular among younger individuals and more among men than women. If younger generations were to keep up their higher than average consumption of soft drinks, the market might see an increase in overall consumption in the years to come. Coca-Cola and Guarana Antarctica, an all-Brazilian brand produced by Ambev, have the largest social media following among all soft drink brands in Brazil. Ambev and Spal Indústria Brasileira de Bebidas, the Brazilian company of Coca-Cola FEMSA, are among the leading beverage players in Brazil and have recorded sales in the country of 35.6 and 14.5 billion reals, respectively.Other industry segments
Although soft drinks are the leading segment, many other beverages are part of the non-alcoholic beverages industry in the country. The juices segment, for example, had a production value of 14.7 billion reals and a volume of 3.7 billion liters. Per capita consumption of ready-to-drink juices and nectars was much higher than that of concentrated juices, at 8.4 liters per person for the former and 2.4 liters for the latter.The bottled water segment, also relevant in Brazil, reached a production value of about three billion reals in 2020 and a volume of 13.2 billion liters the following year. Per capita consumption has grown in recent years, reaching 62 liters per person in 2021.
Energy and sports drinks were also popular and had a production value of one billion and seven million reals, respectively, with a volume of 185 million liters for the former and 138 million liters for the latter. Per capita consumption of energy drinks was slightly higher than that of sports drinks.
As for hot drinks, a category in its own right, coffee was the country's largest market with a revenue of 35 billion dollars in 2022 and a volume of 1.2 billion kilograms. Tea followed with 12 billion dollars in revenue and a volume of 522 million kilograms. Cocoa ranked last with less than a billion dollars in revenue and a volume of 118 million kilograms.
