Prime Day, Amazon’s self-invented shopping event for Prime members, is a big success. Established in 2015, Prime Day has grown bigger each year and last year’s iteration of the 30-hour shopping spree saw sales grow roughly 60 percent compared to the 2016 event.
While Amazon doesn’t disclose exact sales figures for Prime Day
, it did say
that its worldwide sales on July 11, 2017 surpassed both Cyber Monday and Black Friday
, making it the biggest day in Amazon's history. Estimates by Internet Retailer
put the company’s haul for the event at $2.4 billion last year. Not bad for a members-only event created out of thin air.
