The preferred mortgage loans in Italy have for a long time been those with medium-term fixed rates, but in 2022, the share of variable rate loans increased. Variable rate loans rose from 17 percent at the beginning of the year to 52 percent in the third quarter of 2022. This had to do with the rising rates of fixed rate mortgages during the same year.
