In 2018, almost 78 percent of startups in Europe relied on the savings of founders. For comparison, 26.3 percent received funding by venture capitalists. How successful a startup becomes depends to a large extent on its ability to attract investment. While startups are often associated with large investment rounds by venture capitalists or business angels, the most popular source of financing is actually private capital of founders, family and friends.
