The outbreak of the coronavirus in the beginning of 2020 hits the tourism industry in South Korea hard. Compared to previous year, international passenger numbers decreased by around 65.8 percent. The number is expected to drop even lower in March, due to tighter border controls and growing fear of the virus. In the beginning of March 2020, South Korea dopped the 90-day free visa program with Japan amid political tensions between the two countries.
