Development rate of green energy in district heating and cooling in France 2005-2020
In 2020, green/renewable energy represented more than 60 percent of the energy mix of district heating and cooling in France. That was a nearly doubled proportion compared to ten years prior, in 2010. Green sources providing energy for district heating and cooling are biomass, geothermal energy, biogas, industrial heating, and waste-to-energy recovery.
Although almost 70 percent of the electricity generated in France was from nuclear sources in 2021, nuclear power plants were not used to provide district heating in this country.
