Nominal retail sales growth in China 2020, by product category

The outbreak of coronavirus (COVID-19) had a significant impact on the retail sector in China in the first two months of 2020. The revenue of retail trade decreased by 20.5 percent compared to the same period in 2019. Product categories such as jewelry, automobiles, furniture, and apparel were hit the hardest. However, categories like food, beverages, and medicine recorded sales growth of 9.7, 3.1 and 0.2 percent respectively.
