Global number of mines on hold as a result of COVID-19 crisis May 2020

As of April 14, 2020, there was a total of 1,542 mines that were on hold globally due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. As of May 26, this figure had decreased significantly to 234 mines on hold. The suspensions of mining have ended in most countries, with Mexico's mining operations permitted to resume on June 1, 2020.
