Japan: ratio of kei cars by number of doors 2021

According to a survey conducted in 2021 about the usage of light motor vehicles among private households and businesses in Japan, the majority of mini passenger cars owned in the country were four- or five-door cars, while only six percent had two or three doors.
Japanese mini cars or kei cars must not exceed 3.4 meters in length, 2 meters in height, and 1.48 meters in width. The engine capacity is restricted to 0.66 liters.

Passenger cars are classified under Japan’s Road Vehicles Act in three categories, based primarily on engine capacity: “standard” (over 2,000cc), “small” (661cc-2,000cc), and “mini” (660cc and under).
