Number of Swedish citizenship acquisitions 2012-2022, by gender
From 2011 to 2017, there were more women than men acquiring a citizenship in Sweden. However, from 2018, there were more men than women who acquired the Swedish citizenship. In 2022, there were again more citizenships acquired by women. That year, around 45,000 men and 47,000 women acquired a Swedish citizenship. Overall in the past decade, the total number of Swedish citizenship acquisitions per year increased. In order to apply for a Swedish citizenship, several requirements must be met. The requirements include being 18 years or older, being able to prove your identity, and residing in Sweden.
