Retail and recreation mobility changes during COVID-19 in India 2020 by state

Due to measures introduced to curb the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) in India, retail and recreational mobility saw the steepest decline across states. Tamil Nadu saw a decrease of 87 percent in August compared to baseline figures from January and February 2020. By contrast, Jammu and Kashmir saw an increase of 83 percent compared to baseline values. This could be attributed to the reorganization of the region from special status to a union territory in October 2019 and lockdown provisions, including a shutdown of phone and internet services.

The data was prepared to help "understand responses to social distancing guidance related to COVID-19. This report shouldn’t be used for medical diagnostic, prognostic, or treatment purposes. It also is not intended to be used for guidance on personal travel plans.
Location accuracy and the understanding of categorized places varies from region to region, so we don’t recommend using this data to compare changes between countries, or between regions with different characteristics (e.g. rural versus urban areas)."
