Sales volume of coffee in Kenya 2019-2020

In September 2020, the volume of coffee sales in Kenya was at roughly 1.9 thousand metric tons, a recovery in comparison to the previous month, when 1.2 thousand metric tons were sold. Furthermore, the East African country registered significant fluctuations in the amount of coffee sales. In the second half of 2019, the sales volume decreased dramatically with the lowest point in July reaching approximately 671 thousands metric tons. The drop might be associated to effects of drought and low global prices.

Coffee is an important commodity in Africa, specially in the East part of the continent. In Kenya, the industry is known for its cooperative system of production. Arabica, a high quality mild coffee, is the predominant type produced in the country.
