Estimated number of full-time jobs lost in East Africa Q1-Q4 2020
Estimations illustrated a loss of nearly six million full-time equivalent jobs in East Africa as of the fourth quarter of 2020. The number was calculated based on projections of reductions in working hours, as an impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. In the second quarter of 2020, higher estimates were registered, pointing out a loss of 18 million full-time equivalent jobs. Also in the period, stricter measures to contain the spread of coronavirus were in place, like curfews and the closure of borders and businesses.
