Germany: derivative certificates 2004-2022

As of the end of the third quarter of 2022, the derivative sales in Germany reached 69.7 billion euros. In total, an estimated 74 billion euros of securitized derivative certificates were sold to private investors in the last quarter of 2021. This value is significantly less than the peak of 136 billion reach in the third quarter of 2007, just before the global financial crisis of 2007-2008, which was in turn sparked by securitized derivatives linked to the U.S. housing market.
