Number of homicides in England and Wales 2009-2022, by ethnicity
In 2021/22 there were 696 homicides that took place in England and Wales, with 496 of these victims belonging to the white ethnic group. Although there were fewer black victims than white victims in this reporting year, people of the black ethnic group had a very high number of homicide victims relative to the overall black population, at almost 50 homicides per million population between 2017 and 2020.
