Japan: supply of Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine for citizens 2021

As of May 3, 2021, a total of around 62.7 thousand cartons of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) vaccination developed by Pfizer Inc. and BioNTech SE were prepared to be supplied to municipalities in Japan by July 4, 2021. Those cartons of vaccination were designed to be primarily administered to citizens aged 65 and older. The government planned to complete the administration of Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccination for the elderly by the end of July 2021.

The supply of COVID-19 vaccination in Japan has begun on February 17, 2021, mainly for health professionals. On April 12, 2021, the government started the vaccine administration for citizens aged 65 and older.
