As of December 2021, the capital adequacy ratio of banks in South Korea stood at 15.53 percent, up from around 15 percent in the previous year. South Korean banks were thus above the minimum capital adequacy ratio (including the capital conservation buffer) of 10.5 percent required by Basel III.
