Self reported alcohol purchase behavior in New Zealand in 2020, in and after lockdown

A New Zealand survey conducted in April 2020 showed that 35 percent of respondents had purchased alcohol from the supermarket or dairy during lockdown. This share increased to over 45 percent in June when the lockdown was downgraded to level 1.

The survey for Post-lockdown (level 1) was carried out between 10 - 19 June 2020, and the survey for during lockdown (level 4) was carried out between 7 - 13 April 2020.

Question asked in level 1 survey : "Which, if any, of the following apply to how you have been buying alcohol to take home or somewhere else in the last two weeks?"

Question asked in level 4 survey : "Which, if any, of the following apply to how you have been buying alcohol in the lead up to and during Level 4 lockdown?"

*Level 4 results are the NET of ‘I (or someone for me) have started buying alcohol online’ and ‘I (or someone for me) have continued buying alcohol online.
