Japan: number of uncertified child care facilities

As of March 2020, there were over 19 thousand unlicensed child care facilities in Japan. Unauthorized child care facilities refer to those not yet approved by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare of Japan (MHLW) under the Child Welfare Act. These facilities typically provide late-night and overnight care services, babysitter services, and care facilities for employees, among others.
