Deadliest storms in Africa 1990-2019
In 2019, the Cyclone Idai caused 901 casualties in Mozambique and Zimbabwe. The storm ranked as the deadliest in Africa between 1990 and 2019. Previously, the cyclone Galifo had provoked the death of 363 people in Madagascar. The island country witnessed five out of the 10 most fatal storms in Africa during the period observed. Located on the southeastern coast of the African continent, Madagascar is highly susceptible to cyclones and tropical storms.
