In 2020, the large majority of women in Italy did not experience complications after having an abortion, either if done pharmaceutically or surgically. Missed or incomplete abortions, followed by surgery, were more common in cases of pharmaceutical procedures, with 2.9 percent of women experiencing this complication. This figure shows the percentage of women experiencing complications after an abortion in Italy in 2020, by type of procedure.
