Brazil: tree cover loss drivers 2022

In 2022, more than half of the tree cover loss in Brazil was due to commodity driven deforestation. This was followed by shifting agriculture, whereby small to medium-scale forests and shrublands are converted for agricultural purposes. By comparison, wildfires were the the cause of roughly 1,484 hectares lost.
