Brazil: tree cover loss drivers 2021

In 2021, nearly three quarters of tree cover loss in Brazil was due to commodity driven deforestation. This was followed by shifting agriculture, whereby small to medium-scale forests and shrublands are converted for agricultural purposes. By comparison, wildfires were the the cause of roughly 410 hectares lost.
