Legal Amazon planted area 2000-2020
The area planted or destined to harvest in the Legal Amazon region in Brazil has nearly tripled since the beginning of the century. In 2020, more than 235 thousand square kilometers were used for crop production, up from around 85 thousand square kilometers in 2000. Agriculture and livestock accounted for around 20 percent of greenhouse gases emissions in the Legal Amazon in recent years.
