Brazil: change in deforested area in the Amazon 2000-2019

The deforestation rate of the Brazilian Amazon increased 34 percent in 2019, compared to the previous year. This is the highest annual deforestation growth detected since the turn of the century. Except from 2017, when the reported deforested area was 12 percent lower than in the previous year, Brazil's Amazon deforestation has been speeding up since 2015.
