Pre-tax natural gas bill for households in Italy March 2023, by tariff area
In March 2023, the estimated annual natural gas bill for an Italian household with a consumption of 1,400 cubic meters per year and a contract in the regulated market was highest in the south of Italy, at over 1,100 euros per year. This price is over 160 euros above the average price in the north of Italy. This price gap does not depend on the cost of the raw material, which is the same in the whole country, but on the fluctuations of other cost components of natural gas prices, namely the cost of transportation and gas meter management. These two expenditures make up around 20 percent of the final natural gas bill, including system charges.
