Anxiety and depression: spending by expense type Spain 2021

In 2021, total spending associated with anxiety and depression amounted to around 1.51 billion euros in Spain. The estimated costs to social security due to temporary sick leaves from these mental health disorders represented around 46 percent of the expenditure on anxiety and depression that year, reaching about 700 million euros. Retail consumption of medications to treat anxiety and depression followed, with a spending of about 630 million euros recorded as of 2021.
