The share of Russian women who wanted to have fewer children increased between 2017 and 2022. More specifically, when asked about how many children they would like to have, 23 percent of women aged 18 to 44 years stated they would like to have only one child in 2022. To compare, in 2017, the share of women who stated the same was measured at 17 percent. Furthermore, less than 19 percent of Russian women wanted to have three children in 2022, three percent less than in 2017.
