Cumulative forest-related carbon flux in Brazil 2001-2022
Cumulative forest-related greenhouse gas emissions in Brazil amounted to 35.6 billion metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (GtCO₂e) between 2001 and 2022. During this same period, Brazilian forests absorbed some 39 GtCO₂e, representing cumulative net removals of 3.1 GtCO₂e. The main drivers of forest-related GHG emissions in Brazil are shifting agriculture and commodity driven deforestation. Brazil accounted for almost half of tropical primary forest loss worldwide in 2022.
