
U.S.: fatal motorcycle crashes per mileage of travel 1995-2020
There were about 5,700 fatal motorcycle crashes on U.S. roads in 2020, translating into a fatal motorcycle crash involvement rate of 32.4 per 100 million vehicle miles traveled. This figure reached a peak in 2005, when motorcyclists traveled some 10.5 billion miles in the United States and 4,682 lives were lost. Since then, helmet use has increased from just under 50 percent to over 70 percent.
