Universal Orlando Islands of Adventure theme park attendance 2009-2021
How has Harry Potter helped?
Islands of Adventure has a total of eight themed islands for guests to explore – the most recent being Skull Island, in July 2016. The already-famous theme park became even more popular after the addition in 2010 of its seventh island. This was the ‘The Wizarding World of Harry Potter’ island – themed to the hugely popular book and film franchise, Harry Potter. It was Universal’s largest investment since its inception in 1990. So, was this investment worth it?
Increasing attendance figures
There was a significant increase in visitation after the addition of ‘The Wizarding World of Harry Potter’ to the theme park. Figures went from under five million in the year preceding its opening to over seven and a half million in the following year. These days, Islands of Adventure ranks in the top 20 most visited theme parks worldwide and parent company, Universal Parks and Resorts, came third in the leading park chains globally, only beaten by competitors, Walt Disney Attractions and the Merlin Entertainments Group.
