Annual performance of FTSE 100 index 1995-2018 The Financial times Stock Exchange 100 index (FTSE 100) is a share index of the 100 companies listed on the London Stock Exchange with the highest market capitalization. The Index, which began in January 1984 with the base level of 1000, reached 6728.1 at closing of 2018. As of January 2019, the FTSE 100 Index reached 6968.9.

During May 2018, the FTSE 100 index, informally known as the ‘Footsie’ saw the index reach a record high of approximately 7.9 thousand. FTSE 100 companies account for approximately 80 percent of the entire market capitalization of companies listed on the London Stock Exchange.

The rise of Female directors in FTSE 100 companies

in 2018, the number of female directors in FTSE 100 companies reached 264, accounting for approximately 29 percent of all directors. Although this is still a way off equal representation at this level, it is almost a ten percent increase from 2014. In terms of women holding CEO positions, only seven percent of FTSE 100 companies had female held CEO positions in 2018.
