Mobile phone market in Indonesia
Indonesia booked the fastest growth of the global top-ten smartphone markets in the third quarter of 2019, with shipments up 29 per cent year-on-year. While ranked as the fourth-largest market in the world, Indonesia offers potential for growth because of a young population and relatively low smartphone penetration . Additionally, stabilization of the rupiah against the US dollar this year strengthened overseas vendor’s investment confidence in the country.
Major mobile phone brands
Smartphone giants Samsung, Apple, Xiaomi and Oppo dominate the current market. In 2019, Samsung Electronics lost its position as the most popular mid-range smartphone brand in Indonesia in the third quarter to Oppo where 2.6 million were shipped to Indonesia. Samsung however retains the largest market share at around 22 percent.
