Indonesia booked the fastest growth of the global top-ten smartphone markets in the third quarter of 2019, with shipments up 29 per cent year-on-year. While ranked as the fourth-largest market in the world, Indonesia offers potential for growth because of a young population and relatively low smartphone penetration . Additionally, stabilization of the rupiah against the US dollar this year strengthened overseas vendor’s investment confidence in the country.

In 2019, Samsung Electronics lost its position as the most popular mid-range smartphone brand in Indonesia in the third quarter to Oppo where 2.6 million were shipped to Indonesia. Samsung however retains the largest market share at around 22 percent.
