Alcohol and tobacco sales volume monthly percentage change Great Britain 2014-2019 This statistic illustrates the monthly percentage change in sales volumes of alcoholic drinks, other beverages and tobacco in Great Britain (GB) from July 2014 to May 2019. The volume of sales in May 2019 was down 14.8 percent. The United Kingdom has some of the highest levels of alcohol and tobacco taxation in Europe, with the tax burden on a typical pack of cigarettes increasing exponentially year on year and the same trend seen in alcohol. Concurrently, manufacturers' prices are also increasing, resulting in higher levels of consumer prices. Overall, however, yearly trends show an an increase in the volume of alcoholic drinks, other beverages and tobacco sales following the ongoing recovering of the economy after the recession.
