This statistic illustrates the monthly percentage change in sales volumes of alcoholic drinks, other beverages and tobacco in Great Britain (GB) from August 2014 to December 2022. The volume of sales in July was down 22.6 percent compared to the previous year. The United Kingdom has some of the highest levels of alcohol and tobacco taxation in Europe, with the tax burden on a typical pack of cigarettes increasing exponentially year on year and the same trend seen in alcohol. Concurrently, manufacturers' prices are also increasing, resulting in higher levels of consumer prices. In 2019, an an increase in the volume of alcoholic drinks, other beverages and tobacco sales could be observed.
