Gender distribution of behind-the-scenes roles in Hollywood 1998-2019

There has been a gradual increase in the share of women being employed in behind-the-scenes roles in Hollywood over the last few years, however little has changed since the late 1990s. In 2019, just 21 percent of all behind-the-scenes jobs (including directors, writers, editors, producers, and cinematographers) were held by women, while 79 percent of these roles were filled by men.
