The TV ratings of the Golden Globe Awards have fluctuated over the years, and 2024 was a better year than the previous one. Among the 18-49 demographic, a rating of 1.76 was recorded, up from 1.1 reported for the previous telecast in 2023. In other words, 1.76 percent of all adults within the 18 to 49 demographic in the United States were tuned into the broadcast.
The Golden Globe Awards
The Golden Globe Awards recognize excellence in film and television both in and outside of the U.S., and are presented every year during the film industry’s awards season. These awards are given by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which was established in 1943. Golden Globe Awards can lead to future opportunities for winners and nominees by aligning them with certain industry standards, and a 2019 study revealed that showing Golden Globe wins or nominations on a film poster can even encourage people to go see the movie.
Entrenched disparities
Like many facets of the movie industry, the Golden Globe Awards have come under scrutiny for their focus on white, male actors. Between 2010 and 2024, a total of 62 men were nominated for the Golden Globe Best Director Award, compared to just nine women. Similar issues surrounding equality and diversity have presented themselves with other media awards, including the Oscars. The #OscarsSoWhite movement has been running since 2015 in an attempt to tackle a lack of representation of non-white individuals, and supporters of this movement consider there to be a long way to go before an even balance is struck.

Household television ratings are an expression of the percent of television-equipped households that are tuned in to a program.
In October 2019, Nielsen altered its reporting, and as such, all figures for metered market households for the Golden Globes prior to 2020 are not comparable to current figures.
