London: crime rate, by offence group 2017 This statistic shows the crime rate of police recorded crime per 1,000 of the population in London (UK) from January 1, 2017 to December 31, 2017, by offence group. Theft offences were the most common, with a rate of 45.8 per 1,000 population over this twelve month period, followed by 'violence against the person' and 'criminal damage and arson' at 22.8 and 7 crimes recorded per 1,000 inhabitants respectively. Of all cities in the United Kingdom, Bristol had the highest crime rate in 2015, with more than a third of the population being victim of a crime, followed by Oxford and Cambridge at 353.5 and 340.1 crimes per 1,000 inhabitants, respectively. According to this survey London was the fifth most dangerous city by crime rate, coming in at 330.3 crimes reported per 1,000 inhabitants. Of public transport crime rates in London between 2013 and 2015, most crimes occurred on the Tramlink at 9.6 crimes per million passenger journeys. The figure of crimes on public transport has been decreasing during that time.
