by Statista Research Department, last edited Jan 28, 2019
Wine consumption per capita per year in France 2003-2016 (in liters) This statistic shows annual wine consumption per capita in France from 2003 to 2016. It presents that in 2003, people in France consumed 54.8 liters of wine on average per person, which has fallen to 40.7 liters by 2015. This decrease in the consumption volume of wine is due to an increase in the share of consumers that casually consume wine as well as non-consumers, while the share of regular consumers has decreased. Wine remains, however, the most popular alcoholic beverage when based on sales value, with a majority of consumers preferring red wine. The total volume of wine sold in supermarkets has remained stable until recently, along with decreases in the average price per liter.
