In a survey from the year 2015, 60 percent of French consumers taking part declared to prefer red wine. On the other hand, almost a third of those surveyed said they rather favored white wine.

As of 2018, survey results indicate that more than 80 percent of both French men and women enjoyed drinking wine. Red wine was mentioned as the favorite type of wine by 72 percent of the respondents. It was particularly popular among men (85 percent).

France ranked as the second largest consumer of still and sparkling wines in 2014 and 2018, with a consumption forecasted at 296.4 million nine-liter cases for 2018. On average, a liter of red wine cost about 4.7 euros and a liter of white wine 5.1 euros (all sales channels included) in France in 2018.
